Why was Nic Sanderson Released from his Contract?

Ok, so the official story is that Nic Sanderson had his contract with Davitamon-Lotto anulled because he suffers from a mild form of epilepsy.

If this is the case it would be completely illegal, because Article 21 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union expressly prohibits 'Any discrimination based on any ground such as sex, race, colour, ethnic or social origin, genetic features, language, religion or belief, political or any other opinion, membership of a national minority, property, birth, DISABILITY, age or sexual orientati'on...'

Cyclingnews hints: 'De Geyter [Sanderson's agent] was keen to move on. "It's not in Nic's interests to inflame the situation," he said. The issue with Davitamon-Lotto "was not primarily a health problem".'

So why was he really sacked? And would the true reason for his dismisall stand up before a court of law in Belgium or Australia?

The story stinks, and I feel sorry for the kid. But he really should stand up for himself more in the circumstances, because failing to do so only serves to raise suspicions.

was just doing a google search trying to find Sanderson's palmares whilst at Wurth, the Liberty Seguros feeder squad. Well, what was LS.

I have it on good evidence that he was the fastest sprinter in the elite/semi-pro Spanish peloton in '05, bar one quick 27/28 yo. In Spain they don't have espoirs, just a second tier.

I think I know why Sanderson was booted. Riders from 20 thru 30, or 26/7 depneding on the budget and squad number, are basically fillers and treated poorly as domestiques. They are squeezed on wages, and generally treated like shyte. It is a bit of an investment to take on a 20 yo, unless his name is Thomas Dekker.

The UCI have a clause where each Protour team requires two under 23 riders per squad. If you take a look at the roster for 06/07 there are two Beglies as u23's. Ofcourse, with Sanderson they could have had three, but they probably thought that they could do without the excess and wage he costed the team owner, Marc Sergeant I think. Sergeant is a prijck (Flemish spelling), will screw you if he has the chance and your name is not Robbie Mcewen or Cadel. See Vogels treatment as an example.

In cycling management, it is not "what you have done for me last season" but "what you can for me now". Very expedient environment, no loyalty. Everyone out for themselves.

What about Liberty Seguros? As Sanderson was dominating second tier sprints why did not he get a contract for the Protour team. Simple, they had Davis, Kemps, plus Vicioso. I think they may have had a Kazakhi one-day racer who was a decent bunch sprinter too. Three or four sprinters on a Spanish squad is three or four sprinters too many.

nic sanderson is the most natural and adaptible cyclist i have ever seen. it is beyond me why he would be dropt. his abilty to be able to change displans is incrediable. the kid has class. i know that with time his ability will be noticed by a decent pro team, and not dropt due to cut backs of costs.

For those who give a crap, Nic was released from his contract because the team was not all that they were cut out to be....As a professional rider you would think you would be treated in a professional way. Im glad he was released from his contracted, with the amount of talent this kid has, he will rise to the top with whom ever signs him on.
