It's productivity growth, stupid.

I have had enough of media reports discussing the woeful fall in productivity. Anyone with half an ounce of sense knows there is no such thing. Rather, there has been a substantial, worrying, long term fall in productivity growth. Sheesh.

Elaboration: productivity hasn't fallen. Rather, productivity has grown, but the rate of growth has dropped. In the early 90's, productivity grew at 4% annually, dropping to 3% in the late 90's and now at 1%, with Treasury forecasting 0% growth in FY07-08. Obviously 0% growth means productivity hasn't fallen, it has stayed the same. This, however, still totally sucks, as Australia's living standards over the long term are highly dependent on continuing productivity growth, especially with workforce participation so high right now.

where is the sander, oh where could he be?
A mysterious fellow, oh my oh me!
He wanders by day,
In the clouds where he lay,
oh why won't he fill me with glee?
